Currently, one of our MCL members, Tori Dockery is working with Josiah to bring his story T.I.S.H. to life. Tori’s job is to illustrate Josiah’s words and finally, after 3 years, bring the story to life!

T.I.S.H. (The Ignorance Stops Here)

The story is about a about an overweight girl named Tish who is a cheerleader at Maria Elementary in the city of Fontucky. Tish’s obstacle is dealing with how her fellow students reject the idea of an overweight girl being a cheerleader. Although Tish is the main character, there will also be other characters (more details forthcoming) that deal with their own personal issues.

Tori says she was inspired to help Josiah bring his cartoon to live because “In today’s society, we still have many people who believe that they can’t do or be something because they are “not ____ enough”. People believe this at an early age which causes them to limit themselves. Making
T.I.S.H. a cartoon for an audience all ages could help diminish whatever limitations they may have put on themselves.”

T.I.S.H’s ultimate goal is to stop the ignorance. Nonetheless, just like MCL, this cartoon is aimed for all those who have never felt good enough to accomplish something. Here at MCL we believe anyone can achieve anything as long as they set their minds to it. Of course, Josiah leads by example - he will now be able to publish this great story and continue inspiring many!

I for one am very excited to see Tori & Josiah’s final draft!

I started working at Music Changing Lives in January 2015. When I first came, I did not know what to expect. I had seen certain people in the office before, but I had to idea how much work they were doing. At times, it is hectic - this is especially true when we are trying to meet Grant deadlines (or any sort of deadline) and when trying to bring in new donors. Other times, it is fun - like when I got to visit one of the HS sites and got to meet the students that are part of the program or being able to plan upcoming events. Overall the experience has been great. On one hand, I’ve seen how complicated it is to manage a non-profit. On the other hand, I’ve gotten to see how rewarding it is to be a part of something that brings so much hope and happiness to both the children and their parents.

Also, I have been given many opportunities to do things I love (like writing, blogging, etc) that, ultimately, help the organization. Needless to say, everyone has a special place at MCL. Each member, employee, and worker, come together to form this robust program. Each person who is part of MCL is essential.

Lastly, I have learned the biggest lesson of all: excuses do not bring results, if you want something you’ve got to plan and be ready to conquer!

I am grateful and humbled by this experience.
